After spending a day crop adjusting near Moses, I drove out to the south end of Soda Lake to drop a line for a couple of hours targeting Smallmouth bass. The walk out to the South end Soda Spillway was a pleasant one, yet I was a little unnerved by the new gang graffiti on the rocks and concrete. I packed a pistol for snakes but also in the back of my mind, being alone could make one a tempting target while hiking in remote areas. Anyway, the fishing was pretty slow to start. I dragged maddog crawfish plastics for a bit with no bites. 3" Kalins grubs got nipped, but with no takers. I even threw a Luhr Jensen Summercraw patterned 1/4 oz crankbait on the southside of the dam for a while with no hits. I finally started catching some 11 to 13" smallies on a Berkley dropshot minnow in Emerald shiner rigged 10" off the bottom. My biggest bass which was around 16" took a brown/blue Robo worm dropshotted in the shade of the concrete eddy. I think I hooked a nice rainbow judging silver flash of the fish. She was only on for a few seconds before she came unbuttoned...the skeeters got pretty thick so I picked up after releasing my last bass. I love the Potholes area...I just wish some people would leave their spray paint at home. The Jigmiester

Used to fish Soda years ago with my dad, always the north end and always slayed the bluegills and other panfish. We too have noticed the problems with litter and graffiti in the grant county area. The Quincy lakes too are becoming just a big landfill with all the garbage strewn around out there and no law enforcement in sight. Evergreen used to be one of my favorites but it a huge lawless area and fishing has really gone downhill there. Don't know what the answer is but maybe someone needs to explain to Grant Co that they will start loosing revenue from the sportsman if they don't clean up their messes.
