2nd time on Sawyer. 1st time with a boat there.
Got to the lake at close to 3:30PM. Slow start, some people were moving a pontoon slide. Hogging up the majority of the launch lane. Granted, it's big enough for 2 boats to be launched at once, but with my noob experience, I like the extra room to manuevoer.....
After waiting about 15 mins, took a chance and launch we went. Managed to get it down the narrow path no problems! Starting to get good at it...
Anyways, we start fishing the area to the right of the launch, where those 2 islands were. Throwing jig and grub combo. I got the 1st bite, but missed. Whatever it was, was small. Then the GF gets a bite and lands! A small SMB ~6". In the same area, she catches her 1st LMB, ~9-10". I wasnt exactly sure it was a LMB. When I got home, I verified it with online pics. :o
Still no fishes for me. :(
We then went down to the southern area of the lake where there appears to be an outlet or some kind. Fished around the lilly pads. I managed to get another bite finally, but lost it halfway to the boat when it jumped. Whatever it was, it was small also. Looked like a sunfish or maybe a crappie profile.
We got a few more nibbles but cant land. The GF gets tired of fishing so she's relaxing in the sun. I keep trying to fish but no bites now.
Now we head up to the northern area and I land my first my first fish, a ~9" SMB. I continue casting as we go up and I get ~10" LMB! My first one. Then I caught a 10-11" perch. Hit my lure very aggressively. Casted to the same area. Got lots of nibbles, but cant hook them. Too small. I assume a school of perch there.
We fished mainly 20ft or less waters.
The lake is very noisy with all the jet skis and boats. But by around 6:30PM, the majority of them left and the lake was very quiet and tranquil. The water was smooth as glass. Stayed until about 7:15PM.
