had a GREAT day on our favorite lake my wife Melanie caught the biggest one of the day,3lbs.14ozs., her personal best dolly so far, I caught one that was 3 or 4 ozs. smaller, but she still has to beat 4.17 lbs.(my best so far from last year). The sea-run cutthroats have been hitting as well, we caught 9 of those, all bright fish. What a great day weather-wise ,too. Tight lines to all(we chose to go to Quinault, but the silvers were hitting REALLY good in the lower chehalis according to my neighbor, will check it ot later this week if I can. Bob R.

I just wanted to get clarification, were you fishing in Lake Quinault? (not the Quinault river) just because you said something about the lower Chehalis river. If if in fact it was Lake Quinault, can you tell me what the regs. are right now for this lake. I have been curious about fishing it, but it is controlled by the tribe, so the regs. are a little hard to find on the internet.
I assume there is a decent boat launch? Thanks.

We were fishing in the lake. There are two excellent launches although one shuts down after Labor Day. They are located in two of the three campgrounds on the south shore road. The one that is open still is the Williby Creek campground. There is no fee for launching but the fees to the tribe for fishing are as follows; for a weekend (or three days) it costs$10.00 for fishing and $10.00 dollars for a boat permit. Annual license is $35.00 but your limits are generous, 12 fish daily, 4 of which can be Dolly Vardens, all rainbow over 16 inches must be released as they are steelhead (every trout we have caught so far has been a cutthroat though) and ALL salmon must be released(we've only caught a handfull of salmon over 5 inches, all sockeye I believe, more than a few under 5 inches, it's amazing how a small fish will strike a lure over half its size!) 15 fish in one day for two of us has been our best day. Size and numbers of blades on trolling rigs is limited to two blades no more than 2 by 3 inches, minimum size on fish is 7 inches, cutthroats in the spring are lake residents, a little smaller, and after August 1st the sea-run cuts come in and are significantly bigger. No live bait other than worms or maggots but we troll spoons quite effectivly. The derby is held in June, 1st Saturday.Your derby ticket ($20.00) includes boat and fishing permit for that day so that is a good way to try the lake. winning cut is usualy no bigger than 18 inches or so and that is good for $1000, biggest dolly gets $100. My wife Melanie won the Dolly prize 3 years ago. Regs are also on the Quinalt Tribal website, but only during fishing season which runs at the same time as the state's timeframe. Good luck. Bob R.
