II have always fished the "salt" for Cutt's, and over the last 25 years have done well in the estuaries and salt flats off the river mouths. And over the years have developed my own spinners and wedding ring type rig that works like dynamite in the tide flats.
Last Friday I took those lessons learned and tried my methods and homemade lures out on the lake and had a fantastic day! Dead calm, shirtless, and hot at 10:00AM! Plus I had read a few things so I set my downrigger at 40-45 feet pulling my secret lure, and BAM !! Not more then 10 minutes into the day, my fist Cutt. Not a monster, but nice, and barfing stickle back or perch all the way up to the boat!!
As it turned out, I got 11 fish to the boat between 10:00AM and 2:00PM most were 10 or so inches maybe bigger, yet I did get 5 that were in the 18+ inch range. All released and two posed for pictures right quick in the boat. One female and one sick/fat Buck ... he stomach was just extended with bait.
It was a pleasant surprise, as I usually only fish the lake early in the spring before the water skiers hit the lake.
Hopefully the pics turn out OK??
Jeff.
