Another grand day out on the water. We didn't launch until around 0830-0900, but it was still chilly and foggy. The run up to the lower pens was limited vision for the first 10 miles or so due to the surface fog, but was Beautiful after that. Tons of waterfowl, Eagles sunning in the morning sunshine, and snow on the hills. The bite was slow for us today, but was able to hook up with a few. Within 10 minutes of jigging right above the pens, I hooked into a fish and the battle was on. Never got it up to see, it was a strong fish, and as luck would have it, the fish went around one of the anchor chains/cable and the rest is history. Cindy caught and release several up to 4#, she was holding out for "Walter" (a local myth of a monster trout at RW) . She finally boated a 6# 3oz tripp, and I lost a "nice one" at the boat (I did get to release some small ones) before we decided to head down river. All in all we had 4 fish on above the 5# mark, but only netted one of them. We fished around the pens area until 1400 or so, then headed down to the pump #3 area. When we got to the pump #3 area the wind (local) had kicked up a bit, and the cold started to soak in. We didn't get any bites at the pump #3 area, so we buzzed on down to the launch. We tried a plethra of lures today, and once again could not establish a pattern, so it was mixem up time. One passin boater mentioned they had enjoyed the Latest WL video Mike had Published, AND they recognised Cindy's "Yellow Fishin Pole". LOL. Also met a couple of WLers who was on the water with Joe, who had a couple of "Nice" fish. Nice to meet you guys, and good luck with your future endeavors.
Talked with a few visitors to the area who had a no fish day, but would be back for the trophy fish.
RW sure has its charm. Good luk all, and stay safe out there.

You be Welcome Joe. I made the comment to Cindy she had the appearance of an Arabian with her full hood on, and the only comment she had was, I bet they are a lot warmer than I am> LOL She be one tough lady.

Nice fish Loui and Cindy. My friend and I fished Rufus on Saturday and Sunday. You may have seen us... we have a small 16' fiberglass center console boat and we fished between pumps 3 and 5 on both days.There definitely wasn't much going on casting lures, however, my friend caught about 7 fish yesterday using a black 1/4 ounce jig. The largest fish we landed yesterday was about 6lbs and my friend (Lee) got that on his last cast. He also missed some bigger fish on the jig that jumped off. I was casting brass spoons and roostertails and didn't have much luck. I caught a nice fish on Saturday about 5 or 6lbs. trolling a mini hoochie ace hi-Fly in Pink. The fish are a little slow getting started as compared to last year. The water is still warm (54 degrees) but if the cold continues, it will be in the 40's soon and hopefully get the real good bite going.

Rufus Woods is a large body of water with many twists and turns. If your intent is to catch fish and learn about this fishery and have fun while doing so Joe Heinlen is a great choice. Nice to meet you Loui and hop to be back on the water soon....

Howdy manrandy7770.
I totally agree with ya, Joe is a great teacher, and on Rufus (as with any body of water) there is alot of dead water. Joe has a knack of reading the lake and finding fish, and is more than willing to share his knowledge. There are so many places to explore on that body of water, it will provide many years of enjoyable fishing for most any of us.. It's always great to meet other WL folks on the water, and I hope to cross paths with you in the future, and share a fish story or two..

Thanks steelhead64389 If ya ever see us on the water, yell or something and say howdy. Sounds like the black jig was working for Lee. I know we see reports of 40, 100, or even higher fish days, but any day you can go out on the water and reel in fish, it is a great day. Even though cindy and I have had those high count days, I'm satisfied anytime we can coax a fish to bite. I love it when the day is getting close to over and ya hook up with the biggest fish of the day.
