I went to Rufus Woods over the weekend with my friend and we experienced rather slow fishing on both days. We did manage to catch our limits for both days, but we tried all different methods and caught fish employing all of them. We fished the area below pump 1 for most of the day on Saturday and trolled up 4 fish using wooly buggers and also mini hoochie rigs in pink. We also caught a few fish by casting spoons to shore, but it was relatively slow. We picked up and went upriver about 10 miles and trolled and casted to a shoreline that had lots of rock and steep drop offs and succeeded in catching some nice fish as shown in these pictures.
The black jig was the weapon of choice for my friend as I guided the boat in and out of coves and shoreline where he could work his jigs. We also had some nice hits above by some big fish, but they didn't stay on for us. I want to thank Joe Heinlen for giving us a couple lures to try. We did get a fish on one of the little Yozuris. Rufus Woods is an awesome place even if the fishing is a little slow. The thought of a large triploid on your next cast is always awesome and keeps you coming back!
