I've been out several times recently. During the cold spell, and after the cold spell. The BIG Lake has actually been pretty calm and fishable ... Yet, very few fish for this guy. I've also noticed with the temperatures of the water, the fish are pretty well scattered along with the bait. Shallow, deep and in between, I mark lots of activity, yet really no success. I've spent time up North and South thinking the Cutts would be working their way closer to the Slough or Cedar River ... Nothing. Mid Lake has been a bit better on the humps and ridges, yet really nothing to brag about. Southwest side of the Island has been OK. Herring, Spinners with meat, Spoons, and Plugs ... Nothing really out performs another. I did have one serious takedown with a whole Herring during the freeze, and it almost spooled my "olde" Shimano Bantam before I could get things under control, and then I lost it. Never saw it, and whatever it was, it chewed through the Black Maxima 8# leader. I suspect a late Silver .. Who knows? I do love those days, when the lake is like glass …. Yeah it’s cold, yet trolling is a breeze, and as we all know, that lake can get nasty some times!! I miss fishing the Cedar in the winters! We caught a lot of fish out of that river when we were kids ….
