My fiancee Pam and I got out of the house to shake off the winter doldrums and wet a line at Yakima counties Buena Pond # 6. It was nice to see that a couple of guys picked up some 11" to 12" Rainbow Trout. Not too big, but decent fish. After setting up our easy chairs, I baited up with orange/green glitter powerebait and set Pam up with red/white and blue glitter Captain America Powerbait ( with a three foot floroucarbon leader and a #14 treble hook.) It didnt take long before Pammy sqealed with delight at her first fish of 2010. It was the same over the next hour untill we couldn't see the tips of our rods.We left with 5 keepers, enough fish for dinner, who were soon to be mixed with fried diced potatoes and onions and crispy biscuits. Of course the lady outfished me and she even saved my shiny new trout rod from going for a swim! Trust me guys, there are more "Keeper" gals out there who love to fish more than they like to nag. I just happen to have one of them "Good" ones...The Jigmiester

Hi ya Jiggie, nice to see a report from you. Good work on getting Pam started on 2010. MMMMMMMMMMM, "fried diced potatoes and onions and crispy biscuits". MAn I wish I Had been there t o help you out with that cook-up. What a way to end a day. Hope our paths cross again. Congrats to ya Scottpratt. Catching a keeper is one thing, but being able to Maintain such a relationship is well worth the effort. May you two fish for Many years to come. Howdy Jimbo, Come on Man, ease up a bit. Read the post in the spirit it was posted. Jiggie and his fishing partner did not go to C&R, They caught fish to put on the table (and was using bait), And the TERRIBLE TREBLES ARE AN EXCELLENT CHOICE FOR PUTTING MEAT ON THE TABLE (where legal to do so). For those instance where C&R is the name of the game, Mr Jiggie has quite the arsnal (many boxes in fact) of Single hooked artificial lures/baits for just such an outing. Your intent is in the right place, but this situation didn't warrant angler education. No harm, No foul. Fish on and may all your released fish live long and healthy lives.

Jimbo and friends. Just a little note on the use of treble hooks when using powerbait trout dough products. I only use tiny trebles when I intend to keep my planter trout for a meal. I have seen way too many anglers over the years mishandle bait hooked fish and throw them back only to see them floating belly up later. Catch and release along with "selective harvest" is important to maintain our states fisheries for future generations. Barbless hooks, rubber nets, and a gentle handling and awareness approach to the quick release of C&R game fish are just as critical to the survival of the caught species. Hatchery trout for the table are the "Only" fish that I would use trebles on. Thanks for the input Loui, and like you said Jimbo, tightlines to ya all! The Jigmiester

Speaking of Keepers just caught one a couple months ago. She loves to hunt and fish plus is extremely easy on the eyes!! Got to love that. We just got engaged and are getting married in Oct. and she had the nerve to ask if we could do a guided hunting trip for our honeymoon can u believe that? Well of course I will do my husbandly duties and make that happen sheesh what a pain. Good luck to all!!!

Hey now I only use barber and/or treble hooks and I am a strict catch and releaser.... Then again I also don't fish for trout. Bass can handle being caught a lot better than trout. I am curious why you even care about killing them cause most of the trout you catch in the lakes of this state are farm fish. Screw that fishery I believe in letting the lakes produce their own habitat without artificial stocking. That's how you create a viable and productive fishery.
