We worked the centerline of Lake Chelan from the 200' depth just uplake of the Yacht Club in an uplake direction to about the 380' contour. This takes just about an hour per pass. We averaged about 2 fish per "pass". We fished four lines, 2 off the downriggers and 2 that I call outriggers. Rushin' Salmon Wobblers by Critter Gitter in the Purple Glow color were once again the big producer. We had one pass that produced 4 fish, and both of our 12 pounders that were the big fish of the day. Once again, the whole idea was to keep these spoons working within 5 or 10 feet of the bottom at about 1.5 mph. This pattern has been amazingly consistent over the past few weeks.

That is one nice fish. Do you have success catching those around the end of May? I always head east to Alta lake for Memorial Day and would consider a trip with you if they are still biting.

Nice fish, does the fishing ever slow down there? If they are biting so well there, maybe I should be hitting priest lake right now in Idaho?

There is no minimum size or daily limit on the Lake Trout at Chelan, and if you look through reports, the guides always catch a lot of them seemingly year round. I even caught one out of my touring kayak without depthfinder or downrigger. Follow the advice in the reports, and you'll land fish there.

they are also known as a lake trout, they can grow to upwards of 30 - 50 lbs. bigger mackinaw have been caught i am sure in other places , i know that a big one on chelan is 30 pounder but for mackinaw to survive they need deep deep water and they need shallow also and a big supply of food(i think their main food supply in chelan is kokanee smolt :) ) which there is alot to be had in this body of water. awsome fishery going next week. good luck

All of the mackinaw that I've seen gutted from Chelan are full of shrimp.

I've caught Makinaw in Preist Lake Id before. Good eating, but not much of a fight. Could'nt you run some lighter rods off of those downriggers to get a little more wiggle out of those fish. Maybe the Chelan Fish are different. How do they fight?

The Chelan Lakers are like all the others-not much fight unless you get into a slab.
