And the beat goes on. This is prime time to catch big kokanee eating Mackinaw. To try and put it in perspective we get about one fish over ten pounds for every forty fish caught over the course of the year. This week we put forty three lakers in the boat with nine of them being over ten pounds. That is better than 1 in 5. Twenty pound fish are one in a thousand here. We got one this week. Fish over 15 are about 1 in 200. We got three this week. Which is the long way around to say "it doesn't get much better than this". We dealt with some rain this week. Temps were in the high 30's to low 40's all week. No wind.
Ok, specifics. Again, we like to keep our presentations simple. Purple Glow Rushin' Salmon Wobblers caught our big fish. We like them for their nice thump, their lack of drag and that they track arrow straight. We pulled them at 1.4 to 1.6 mph within 5 feet of the bottom in depths of 250 to 350 feet. The specific area was starting just above the Yacht Club in the centerline of the lake and working deeper until hitting the 350' contour. Then we start cranking and retrieve everything. Turn the boat around and do it again. It can be tedious if the fishing is slow. But, it is undeniably effective during this time of the year.
