Sockeye summary:
How do you not catch limits for this fishery? Three trips out on the first Saturday, 4 in the boat each time, left the dock at 6:00 am, back with 8 fish at 8:45, out again at 9:30, back with 8 fish before noon, etc.
Manual 'riggers, 80', stay away from the flotilla, red single 3/0 off of a 0 dodger. Troll speed on the GPS was 1.3mph. Only trick we used was to try an stay in greater than 100' of water - deliberately avoided the crowds and did not stay in a straight line for very long, lot of zig zagging, almost every hook-up was during a turn. Did not notice the bite ever being "on" or "off" - consistent action regardless of time of day.
Bass
Wow, seems like a LOT more smallies in the lake this year, big ones - don't really target these fish, pick them up while perch fishing with the kids - have pics of a 3.7lb bronze back the 8 yr old got on a snoopy rod. 07/25/04 2.4, 2 and a couple dinks along the weedline by Coulon - MIDDLE OF THE DAY - got them on small, white perch grubs with chunks of 'crawler - the kids didn't like the "big fish" messing with their perch fishing. Seafair weekend, caught the 3.7lb smallie off a dock south of Seward park.
Perch
Cannot believe the size of some of these, got one that had to be 2lbs, freak of nature - south end of the lake, during July and Aug, 15 -25 feet of water, near weedlines, grubs tipped with chunks of 'crawlers are the only way to go - kids love catching them - have kept a couple of the really big ones to eat, pretty good.
Cutt's
The wild cutt's are the big lakes greatest asset - anyone else notice that the meat on these big trout is as pink as a salmon? Target these babies every time we go out - have found that the smaller Pro-Troll flasher in green/glow with the Echip trailing either a cop car coyote spoon or a coho killer in green really slays them. Also usually run the standard gang troll wedding ring/needle fish as a second set up.
Timing can be important for the Cutt's - early morning bite is best.
