Fished Dusty Lake, a quality water in the Quincy Wildlife area for about 4 hours during the mid-day. Water was pretty cold and had to get out a couple of times to warm up . Used a float tube and fished primarily with chironomids for the first 2 1/2 hours. Changed sizes, colors and depth without a takedown (strike indicator) or a hit using a deep water technique. No husks on the surface and very few insects hatching out.
During the last hour or so, switched over to a "Thin Mint" (size 8) on a deep sinking line and a slow troll with moderate success. Seven rainbow released, 10"-16".
Lots of shore fishermen and 8-10 tubers. Game agent showed around 1:00 and wrote several citations for barbed hooks, treble hooks on lures and use of bait. By 2:00 I counted only 4 tubers and just a couple of shore fishermen. Either everyone decided to go home early or they were asked to leave. Check the regs and be aware that Dusty is a point of emphasis with the Grant Co. Fish and Game guys for this spring.
