Fishing today was tough. First time to the lake and did a lot of searching and finding out what the bottom structure looked like for future reference. Did have 6 bites and one hook up. Got the fish to the boat and my fishing partner looked at the fish with the net in his hands and we both watched it swim away after a small run. We marked fish out in the mayfield trench in 148 feet of water at 20 to 40 feet and the water temp was 48 degrees. This area produced to most bites. We were trolling with flashers and wedding rings in a red and white with hammered silver blade. Not having downriggers and nowing exactly how deep you were fishing was the experiment of letting out line and bring in line. Using the new tool to my arsenal the worm threader was the only reason we did get the hook up we did. The fish were short striking the worm on the wedding ring and getting a couple good bite off of it and then nothing you would reel up and the head of the worm would be all that was left on the hook.
