Well, I can't catch a fish to save my life. I have been fishin last three weeks at small ponds and at whitman today. I have tried all the usual stuff, from drop shottin to slow rolin spinner baits. I thought I was a decent bass fisherman until signing up for this sight a couple of years ago. I realized that I suck, so I spent all winter readin articles and buyin gear. I even spooled up some 50lb. braid for jig n pig. Since it is only March and I don't have anything better to do, I'll keep casting away though. Water was 47 all around lake. There were two other guys fishin, nothin for them either.

When I started fishin, I left boat launch and went to right, about 10 house down, a guy (about 50 years old) was shooting a BB gun at a divin bird. The BB's were skippin past my boat so I yelled at him. His excuse was the bird eats about six pounds of fish a day. So, if you see a diving bird with messed up wings, it is from that guy. I almost called fish and game, but since he went in his house I changed my mind.

The water will warm up soon, so till next time good luck.

Hang in there man, it's gonna bust wide open anytime now!! This month and next are the time to catch the big female's!! One tip, unless you're fishing heavily stained water, save the 50lb braid for topwater baits and switch to 20lb florocarbon for your jigs, that's one bait that the fish definately get a chance to take a look at before they commit! If you're worried about line breakage, as long as you frequently check your line for nicks from the knot up about 2 feet and retie when you find one, you should be just fine. That and maybe wear a helmet for the crazy old b-b gunners?? LOL

Procaster, I was the other fisherman on the lake today when you were yelling at that crazy in the house. THANKS. I heard a few shots, but wasn't sure what was going on. I couldn't quite hear what was being said, but now I know, it's probably better that way. Thanks again. I caught a couple yesterday on a jig and pig, one smaller fish and one close to 4 lbs. I hit this lake almost every weekend, it seems to be off and on. Hope to see ya again and God Bless.

That is what I figured with the braid, it is really for when the weeds get thick and for the stained water. I was using 18 lb. maxima before, I'm just tryin new stuff. The site I have been goin to is Bassresource.com, there is tons of articles for smallmouth and largemouth. I fogot to mention that pads were startin to come up.
