Ahhh, Newman.
Took the boat out and ran around the lake for my first time on this water. Pitched jigs, jerkbaits, and some cranks around the docks and the large submerged island. Water temps were in the 45F range with the submerged island running over 50F in a few areas. Looks like a nice area but I think I'll wait to return when the pads are up, probably in the late april, early may time.

Ryan,
I fished Newman last friday and we managed one LMB on a rapala jerk type bait. We were sitting over 5 or 6 feet of water and the fish was caught casting out to deeper water. We estimated 8 or 9 feet deep. I also went out for a couple of hours this Thursday. The pads are comming up and with temps perdicted in the mid to high 50's, along with some sunshine, over the next 10 days, I would guess the pads will be up pretty well by the end of March. If the temps continue to go up, we should start seeing some pretty good fishing by mid April. I have fished Newman for many years now, but when you say, "Submerged Island" I am unaware of where you are talking about. I know of some rockpiles out there, but the submerged island has me stumped. Care to share it's location? Happy Fishing

AJ's Dad, On the northwest section of the lake where there are 1 to 2(depending on the year) milk jug type buoy's marking shallow rock is what he's talking about.(i think) Scott

AJ's dad,
Same place Scotti is referring to. The northern most area of the lake, near Muzzy bay? A large flat area that's pretty shallow, about 5-8' deep. With the temperature differential I would imagine this would make a nice spawning area.
