Got the scoop on the new reg change for American. I'll try to set the link for you guys;

https://fortress.wa.gov/dfw/erules/efishrules/erule.jsp?id=865.

If that did not work here is the info:

March 5, 2010

Change in daily trout limits for American and Black Lakes

Action: The daily limit for trout is changed. Only two trout 14 inches or greater may be retained as part of the 5 fish bag limit.

Effective date: March 6 through April 30, 2010.

Species affected: Trout other than kokanee

Location: American Lake (Pierce Co.) Black Lake (Thurston Co.)

Reason for action: These daily catch limit rules are intended to extend the time that larger trout (including triploid trout) are available ensuring opportunity for more anglers.

Other information: The trout daily limit will remain at five (5) fish per statewide general rule; however only two (2) fish over 14 inches may be retained within the five (5) fish daily limit.

Information contact: For Pierce County lakes contact Mike Scharpf (360) 902-2710 or Hal Michael (360) 902-2659, Hal.Michael@dfw.wa.gov . For Thurston County lakes contact Larry Phillips (360) 902-2721 or Hal Michael at (360) 902-2659, Hal.Michael@dfw.wa.gov .

That's nice to see. I wish they would do this in more lakes. I actually wish they would just say "Minimum size 16", daily limit 2" Catching dinks isn't fun.

True and it would be more of a challange, especially from the shore

Actually, it seems like every time the WDFW introduce a new regulation it just adds to the confusion of what is and what is not legal. I wish they would scrap this nonsense once and for all and make SIMPLE year-round regulations for ALL bodies of water. I am so sick of the regs that apply from "the third branch of the elm tree on the north side of the river extending to the red painted rock marking the boundary line during the period March 6 through the last Saturday in May but only if it is a full moon...". ARRGH! Can they make it any more confusing???

Ok....I'll get off my soapbox now....thanks for the report!

Nicely stated my friend. I am in total agreement with you. Let me add something else to the soap box The regs also state, if I am reading this correctly that its only in effect between March 6th to April 30th-Hmmm. Maybe Mr. Hal Michael can clarify the latter. his email address is: Hal.Michael@dfw.wa.gov .

the regs are confusing, but usually well intentioned. Some rivers and lakes get far more pressure than others and it makes sense to set different rules. The pressure isn't always human either. And some waters aren't even 'just' a fishery, they have other purposes and so setting select tackle rules may make sense.

Once a person understands the basics of the rules it's not too tough to just visit the wdfw website once before visiting a new lake and do a quick "CTRL + F" search for the body of water you are fishing in the special rules section.

The regs are not just confusing by accident Dustin. The WDFW has many on staff that are environmental whack jobs that would love to put an end to sport fishing altogether. Trust me I know this. I used to volunteer for them and got to know some of the people. These people really have an anti-sport fishing agenda. This is why we need to get good conservative leaders in state leadership that will weed these nut jobs out of positions of power instead of the appointments made by people like our beloved, illegitimate governor Christine Gregoire. Keep this in mind in November my friend! Maybe we can take back our state!

Ok...'nuff politics.....just sayin'.....I believe in the KISS (Keep It Simple Stupid!) rule when it comes to making fishing regs...no need for complicated rules. By keeping them simple and straightforward I believe there might also be a lot less poaching and other illegal activities going on.
