A buddy and I decided to hit Bonnie and see how the bass activity was. We launched the boat in the creek at 7:00am and made the run up to the lake. I forgot the adapter to hook my depth finder to the battery, so I couldn't get a water temp (I was really pissed at myself). The water is the lowest I have ever seen it this time of year and really dirty. Probably 3'-4' lower than this time last year. We started fishing the at the south end of the lake and worked our way north. We were throwing all sorts of plastics and lipless cranks, but mainly Zoom crawbugs, Senkos, and Swim Senkos. We were fishing really slow with the plastics on the bottom from the shore out to 10'-15' deep. We fished several places while making our way to the northern end of the lake with out even a single bite. After that we decided to try some perch fishing. We anchored in several places and jigged with worms on the bottom for about 3 hours and caught 3 nice size perch. The one in the picture was about 12" long and stuffed full of eggs. She weighed in right at 1 pound! The other two were about the same size, but had already dropped all of their eggs. I kept the two that were spawned out and put that fat girl back so she could go finish spawning. Overall the bass bite was non-existent and the perch bite was really slow, but any day on the lake is a good day.

I've had luck at Bonnie around this time in the past slow twitching soft plastic jerk baits like the zoom fluke.

how big of a boat can be put in that creek right now?... are the rock piles marked or will I have to just tilt the motor the whole way??? that's too bad that it is still dirty...do the fish ever run up the crick to spawn i wonder????

Those were about the only plastic I didn't try and I had just bought a brand new bag of them. I totally forgot that I had bought those. I guess there is always next time. Thanks for the info.

The water level is about at typical late spring early summer level. I have a 10' livingston and I had my motor tilted up when I went up the creek, but I left it down on the way back down and didn't hit anything. Unless we get a lot of moisture this spring the creek is going to be really low come summertime. I was really suprised by how dirty the water was. I have never seen it that dirty. The weeds aren't coming up nearly as much as I was expceting either. I guess the murky water might be filtering the sunlight.

wow, thats weird about the water and the weeds...we put a 16 foot boat in there one time...launching and loading was a bit difficult, ...my dad said that some guys will put their bass boats in that thing...thats crazy, but guess it works ok for some people.... would a trolling motor be enough power to get you up to the lake I wonder...? cuz my friend has a 12 footer with a trolling motor and I am getting the itch to look for fish...

My brother and I have gone up to the lake on just a trolling motor before. It is slow going, but it works just fine. Hope all this rain we have gotten makes the lake a bit more accessible. I haven't gotten up there yet this year and I am itching to find those big fat perch that come out of there.
