Ok where to start...Got to Rufus at 7:00am..Launched the vessel into a Full Force Gail Wind and tied the boat to the dock. I had such high hopes of banging the Trips today but my High Expectations was getting blown away with every 20 mph wind gust that was slapping me in the face.

All in a matter of 20 minutes the wind gusts slowed and my customers showed up so we decided to tackle 1 thru 3 pump stations for the morning bite instead of getting pounded to death making the run to the pens.

Started trolling the "Joe" wooley bugger fly on 2 rods and 2 rods with jointed Rapalas. Got a few light strikes on the flies but no hook ups. So I decided to pull in a trolling rod and do a little casting to shore using a kastmaster spoon. Had few follows to the boat but they were acting curious not hungry. After about 20 minutes finally got a real good takedown on the Rapala and we boated our first real nice Triploid Rainbow. After pictures and getting the boat functioning, I spooled the Rapala back out 100ft. and know sooner put the rod in the holder got another hit. Fish shook his head a couple times and the rod went limp..Lost this fish and it was a dandy. It wasn't "Walter" but it was very nice fish. So I had Ken reel his spoon in and I tied on a Jointed Rapala on the casting rod since this is what the fish were hitting. Within 10 casts Ken hooked up on this dandy that is Pictured here. Any trout over 14lbs. is a dandy in my book.

Ended up being a great day of fishing, just a slow day of catching. Worked really hard to find biters but I do think that the Full moon and the weather had alot to do with the fish bite today
We experienced Wind, Rain,Hail,Snow and Sun oh ya did I say Wind all in 7 hours on the water.

Thanks to my crew today for battling it out..Tight lines to all and good luck out there..

Joe, how far is the run from the Chief Joseph launch to the first set of pen's in miles, and how long does it generally take to reach the pen's in your boat? Is Chief Joseph the closest launch to the first set? Thanks Joe!

It's pretty damn far. I know there's another dirt launch a ways up on the Indian side. If I understand what the "pumps" are, it's right next to one of them.

But going down a steep dirt road with lots of holes will make me very nervous with a trailer... :o

Hey MotoBoat & Fishing Fool, The first (Lower) set of net pens are 32 miles upriver from Chief Jo Dam. I've got an 18' Lund with a 115hp Yamaha on the back and if I push it hard I can make it to the lower pens in about 40 minutes. Cut & paste this link: http://www.washingtonlakes.com/LakeInfo.aspx?id=305&t=1 and in the middle of the page is a map of Rufus Woods. The first (Lower) set of pens are between mile marker 30 and 35.
