Well, after a period of not fishing, the fishing withdrawals got to the point where something had to be done. I hooked up the boat, grabbed a willing person and hit Rufus Woods. Launched at the Corps launch above Chief Joseph Dam around 0900ish, and motored up to the pump #1 area. Cast jigs and hardware for about a mile above and below the pump #1 throughout the day. Water temp 41 or so with air temp starting in mid 30s the hitting upper 40s. wind chill made it feel colder. Fished the tribal side casting to shore and fishing out to depth of 25-30 feet. fished jigs, spoons, spinners, and flies using black, brown, green, white/pink, Fire tiger, and perch colors. All fish caught on jigs, but couldn't establish a favorite color. Brought two fish to the boat, an 18-20 inch native rainbow (C&R), and a 4-6# triploid (which we kept). Both fish caught in 4-6 feet of water. Between the two of us, We hooked and battled 6 or so more, but lost them before we could get them to the boat. A couple of the fish looked to be in the 6-8# class, but most were in the 2-3 pound size. The wave action made it difficult to detect the light strikes, so I'm assuming the hookset left a little to be desired. It was a good day fishing, but it was a day of "10 thousand casts". (Please be advised, that is an estimate as I quit counting after the "first cast".) :o)
It felt good to get a good dose of fishing in, and I think I'll be in better shape (at least psycologically)(which of course is debatable) for the next trip. Everyone please be aware of the potential weather changes this time of year gives us, and enjoy your time fishing. Sorry, No photos this trip

Thanks for the report Louis. It's nice to hear that you got back out there after a dry spell. Now I know it's possible. I'm looking forward to hitting the water again soon.

Like I always tell my wife: I only made two casts...the first and the last.

Hey Loui, good to hear your catchin' instead of wishin' you were fishin' like me. LOL I need you to test the waters closer to home and let us know when the spiny-ray kick it in gear at Roses! Thanks for the report & we look forward to more. Andy

Thanks BigD, it was good to feel a tug on the line. At least when you get ready to fish, you are closer to RW and Banks not that you're a Watervillian. :o] Look forward to some reports from you my Friend. Stay well

Hey Lundegard , it's interesting how easy it is to loose track between the first and last. Wishing you the best in your fishing ventures.

Hey afk , it was great to see you and your son up at Brewster the other day. Sorry works got ya so busy, but we do what we gotta do. I'm waiting on the local small lakes to warm up a bit more, then look out. We will be on the prowl for some panfish. Can't wait. Take care and stay in touch.

Curious if you ever troll upstream against the current and if so the results. I understand slackwater should be ok but I'm interested in when the current is running. I don't see very many trolling upstream.

Hey Lewis - Glad to see a report from you, thought you'd given up fishing or something. At least you got some time in on the water, and some fish to boot, that makes the outing a worthwhile activity IMO. Roosevelt hasn't been kind to us lately, but yesterday was a nice treat. Check out my report when it makes it past Mike or Aaron. Best wishes to you and Cindy! :-)

Thanks for the question sammamish sam , but we don't do enough trolling to have an answer for ya. We have more confidence in our casting skills than in our ability to use the trolling technique effectivly. Maybe others who have mastered the technique would be willing to share.

Your comment is appreciated hewesfisher, Not given up, just not enough time lately. this time of year the weather changes can be a challenge on the fish catching, but one's chances are better when on the water. LOL.
