Fished the big metro lake on Saturday. Usually, the only fish I pursue during the winter in the NW is steelhead. The snow melt and river conditions caused a friend and I to break out of the routine.
Started mid morning around the I-90 floating bride without a strike, (at least the down rigger clips never popped). After a couple of hours, we decide to search.
We decided to try a river mouth and the closest was south off the cedar. Over the next three or so hours, we landed 4 trout fishing with 30-60 feet of cable out and 50-100 feet behind the ball. 3 on spoons and the other on a 2.5" rapala. Depth from 40-90 feet. Biggest cutthroat was 24", the rest under 20. Lost another nice fish on the rapala. 6lb main with 4lb leader on a 1141 loomis with a 2000 shimano
Not bad for a couple off rookies I guess. Will try again if the rivers are out of shape, but I'm off to chase steelhead on the peninsula this morning.
