What can I say... I went in at Magnusson park at 9:30 am. It was calm and partly cloudy/sunny went I left the dock. I scooted down to 520. The 520 bridge area seems to be better in the summer months. I saw the usual bait balls, but with no predator fish on them. I decided to scoot all the way down to South end of the lake/ Cedar river area etc. Somehow I didn't realize that it was as far as it is..... in a 25HP 14' Lund. It was farily choppy on the way down, but still decent. I fished the South end of M. Island using cut plug herring behind a small cop car dodger, also Mini green Silver Horde hootchie things behind various dodgers. No hits at all. and very little bait seen in the South end.
But the real story comes on the way back. I started to see big ominous black clouds on the N. end of the lake. I headed back full speed. For me that is about 24 MPH. I hit the storm about in the middle of the lake N/S.. Just South of I-90. At this point I thought I was gonna meet Jesus!
It was the choppiest water I'd ever been on with major wind. The bow was 9' in the air... full throttle was only going 6 MPH, since the bow was in the wind. I considered going underneath I-90 bridge and weighting it out.. but of course did not.. Eventually I got passed the storm and made it to my launch at Magnusson Park. Lesson learned.... in this Spring time of uncertain weather, better play it say and stay within reason to the launch. No fish, no bites, no hits, no errors.
