It's been quite the un Jigmiester year for me so far this year... But My fiancee Pam and i managed to get into the fish on The I-82 pond # 2 recently. After portaging my 10 ft Lowe flatbottom, we set off to troll for some chunky raibow trout with some prototype hand tied beaded spinners. The trout were all over the top upper ten feet of the water column, and as long as we stayed over 24 feet of water, we couldn't go more that 50 feet without hooking a fish! I used barbless hooks on my spinners and we caught and released nearly 30 fish in about 2 and a half hours. I finally decided to change out my barbless hooks for baited ones and we took home a few for the frying pan. These kept fish were up to 15" and absoulutely full of little light green "Daphnia" water flea plankton. Daphnia is a critical food source for all fish and these trout were suspended 10 feet down or less to take advantage of them. Catch and release fishing with barbless hooks and no bait allows for an extended fishing time on the water. We also made sure not to remove the trout from the water during the unhooking process.
