My partner and I were both on the water by 11:00. Immediately began getting strikes, bumps, taps and short strikes (hit and runs as I call them). Only about one of every three or four looks resulted in a hook-up. We fished various chironomids and small nymphs vertically via full sink lines. The great news is we got 40 or so fish between us, but it took over 120 looks (no kidding) to do it, and the fish were the smallest I've seen on this lake in years. Takes were slow and tentative, with only a few being strong and violent. We were rifling though out boxes attempting to find that one pattern they'd hit consistently, but not luck. The largest we got was 19" with most in the 14-16" range and several more at 12-14". Sorry fellas, I must admit that I'm spoiled and am used to Amber Lake fish fighting long and hard, not coming to the net in mere seconds! Maybe it's just an off year.
