I love this lake. My buddy and I started fishing right about 9pm on the 14th and had our double limit by about 1:30am on the 15th. It would have been quicker but I spent some time messing around with a funky jig that I just couldn't set the hook with. Right when we hit the spot the bite was on. The kokes in this lake bite so lightly that it takes a bit of finesse and technique to sense them and more to hook up. The fish were pretty small, mostly under 12 inches. But they are plentiful and the meat is bright pink and should be great after we smoke them today. Ultralight gear, glow jigs, corn and maggots are the trick here. The bite was actually pretty steady all night but was hot, hot, hot right about 9:45-10:00pm. I've never really seen fishing quite like it was for us during that time period. Double headers on every drop. We released a couple and took home 38 total fish (got our daily limit at ten minutes before midnight and then limited out for the 15th as well). When we got back and started cleaning them, we noticed that 6 of them were little rainbow trout with pale white flesh. They were pretty hard to distinguish from the kokes in the dark but at the house the tail shape and dots were a dead giveaway. So we could have brought home a couple more kokes...they certainly were there and biting...but we thought we were at our limit so we stopped. It was a great time and we missed at least triple the number of fish than we actually hooked up with. Wonderful lake and I can only hope that the kokes stay plentiful and perhaps grow a bit larger. If you go to Chapman they have boat rentals available, just make sure to stop at the trailer and drop your money in the night box.
