I left for the lake at 7:45 A.M. and the skies were clear. Air temp was in the mid to upper 60's. No clouds and only a slight breeze out of the S/W. I arrived at the ramp one hour later and I had to wait while a someone was prepping his boat at the top of the ramp. I probably waited 220-25 minutes until he finally hit the water. I was using an 8 1/2 foot 6 weight fly rod with a full sink line. Behind the line I had about 5 feet of tapered leader, then about 5 more feet of 5X tippet. I was dragging an Orange Blossom Special (Orange bead head, orange tinsel chenille, and orange maribou tail with orange crystal flash, wooly bugger in a short size 12)
I hooked up right off the bat and landed a nice 12" rainbow. I continued to troll, with oars only, for about an hour and hooked up again. I'm assuming it was another rainbow but it came unbuttoned just before I got it to the net. I trolled down the cliff side of the lake where 18 other boats and myself were treated to the sight of a bald eagle doing some fishing of his own. Didn't have another strike until I was back close to the launch and managed to bring to hand a nice 12" cutbow. I have invited both fish to dinner. It was time to leave the lake because of the speed boats.
