we headed back out to Clear Lake thie morning at the Clear Lake resort for members of the Armed Forces, we arrived at about 12:30, opened up the sides and put out our bumpers, backed the baot down and into the lake with no problems, it was a beautiful day, mild wind, sunny, perfect day for being on a lake and boating,
we headed out just past the no wake zone by the bouyes where we caught our limit of perch last year in about four hours, with the fish finder on, it showed lots of fish around the bouyes so we stopped, dropped anchor and started fishing,
that is as far as we got, of all the fish showing on the fish finder and in various sizes we did not catch a single thing, had a couple good strikes but all in all nothing, we used every lure I have, every method for catching perch from triple Teasers to a plainole worm and #8 snelled hook with no results, we did try a few other locations, headed down to the other end, saw a few on the fish finder at about 40 feet, that was it,
I think who ever said the lack of activity due to the mild winter has something here, we have gone out two weekends in a row and two weekends in a row caught nothing,
the highlight of the day was seeing two eagles doing something up over the west end, and seeing a 2 - 3 year old moose about 100 yards off the Rock Lake Cheney Road by the preserve and a huge turkey that was taking a stroll across the road a little bit further down as we headed back to Saint John
Do you use your depth finder on FISH ID or with it off? If you do have it on Auto with FISH ID on you could be seeing debris, bubbles in the water etc: Use your depth finder in manual mode and you will see what is actually underneath you.
i have done it both ways, set to locate small to medium and auto, i will leave it at auto next time, our finder is from 79 or 80, i am still learning to master it use, one part i did not mention is our three year old who likes to play with all the toys ie cb radio, depth/fish finder all the switches is also learning, '
will try on auto and let ya know.
again,
thank you
