Fished here yesterday and caught two dinks and many rock bass, maybe 50.
Today started out on south side of lake fighting the wind but it was so warm. Had trouble keeping the boat anywhere near where I wanted it but made the most of it. Caught probably another 30 to 40 rock bass, some pretty big, pushing 10 inches. I finally gave up around noon and, if anyone here remembers my report for the previous day, I had seen a couple of beds, elsewhere on the lake, so I decided to go try them again.
Got over there and rigged up a Storm Crawdad, which is the most lifelike plastic craw that I have ever seen. Tried a couple of trial casts with it weightless but it would not sink quite fast enough for what I wanted so I added a split shot directly to the upper bend, near the eye, in my worm hook. Sneaked into the spot, but today was raining and some wind so I could not really see the bed. I seen what I thought was it and made a cast beyond it so my retreive would be about 5 feet from it. Nothing. Tried the same thing about 5 feet from the other side of it, nothing. So my next cast I put long and split the thing in two, even though I was still not sure it was the nest. Let 'er sink and slow retreived with a couple of short twitches and the thing hit. Not huge but a fish, none the less.
Tried to find the other nest but just could not see.
Off the lake at 2:00 or so and that was the only smb.
