Fished at the north shore of the Mossy Rock dam with my wife and kids, 4 of us in all. The weather was cloudy with lite ran at times but all in all ok. We started fishing with one of my favorite lures the Cast Master in 1/4 oz. silver and started landing fish from 7 to 18 inches one rainbow the rest kokes, all catch and release, around 10 to 12 fish in all between us, had a great time. Lots of boats out, noticed a few of them where landing fish as well. Sorry spaced and left camera at home.

I believe that there are NO kokes in Riffe, just landlocked silversand trout. Nice report anyway, Bob R

That is a good point Bob. What are the identifiable differences between Kokanee and landlocked silvers?

I believe that one identifiable sign is that silvers have black spots on back and caudal (tail) fin, where kokanee have "specks".Also definite descriptions are available in WA. fishing regulation handbook. In Lake Merwin I believe both types still occur, we have caught them both on the same day in the fall, you really can see the diff. then, If my memory serves me right the gumline on the silver is black with white interior, I seemto remember a difference in the Kokanee gumline, I believe it was white. In the summer before the spawn in the fall changes their color I believe the Kokanee have a much brighter silver color. If you P.M. me I'll send a good picture of a Lake Shasta Koke that we caught in May of this year, I can't post it on this thread as a response as I didn't originate the thread Bob R

A koke does not have teeth (it's a landlocked sockeye) coho or silvers have lots of teeth, just run your finger on the gumline, you will know instantly. Larry
