Well, first I must write that I was inspired to go to this lake after seeing some of the bass that have come out of here. I've trout fished here many times and been quite successful. I went and got some jigs and plastics. I tried fishing these both for a long time casting and working docks and suckin logs and nice lillies expecting there to be a bass hiding out. but nothing. So after we got tired of this we decided we should catch atleast something. so we rigged up, set anchor, and floated worms from a bobber with a 4' leader. this had the planters constantly. within 30 minutes between the two of us we had caught 8. tried flipping some more jigs for bass later but no success. what gives? am i doing something wrong?

Theoretically, they should be up shallow guarding their beds, do you know the depth you were fishing at?
3 weeks ago the fish i was in were at about 8-15 ft. now i get everything from 1-5 ft but that will vary at different places
Many people know more than I do though

hm.. what i would try to do is look for beds at this time of year. most of the bass i caught recently were guarding their beds close to shore.

have to try and piss them off too...a lot of guys have great luck with buzzbaits or jerkbaits pulled around the beds.

I have fished this lake for decades and one of the best tactics that i have found for fishing this lake is with a ultraviolet light at night time. This lake has massive crayfish because it mostly consists of rock bottom and the big bass use this to advantage at night time which is when the crayfish are on the move. The lures that i found productive at night is topwaters with a lot of action and noise (buzzbaits, jitterbug, propbaits). Crawdad plugs and spinnerbaits work well at night time to on this lake. I use big baits at night on this lake. A home make wooden jitterbug (6 inch long) is one of my favorites. I have caught quite a few 5 and 6 pounders on this lure with the biggest bass that i have caught weighting 8lbs 9ozs. Hottest days of the year are the best times for night time. Best section of the lake for me at night is left of the public boat launch around the docks clear to the lilly pad fields. lure colors to use at night is black with a rattle on lures that can be equipped or come with (example Rattles on spinnerbaits or rattling plugs).

Pinky .....try some alternatives. Find the lilly pads at cast top waters just before dark. Don't stay in one area, keep moving the boat slowly along staying 25 to 30 feet back from the pads. If they are there, you will here some surface splashing. Have fun.
