Fished Lake Stevens this morning. I’m not sure what I was thinkin but hadn’t been out in several weeks so I felt the need to be on the water. It rained, hard at times and the mounting screw on my Min Kota trolling motor finally stripped after 7 years of hard use. So we used my 75 hp Honda and went in and out of gear trying to keep speeds down and catch a few fish. Yea, not so much! Before the trolling motor mount failed completely which was basically about 20 minutes in to the trip I had one to the boat that spit the hook and a second that felt big pulling hard before wrapping itself around the down rigger cable and breaking off. So it was a frustrating morning on the lake to say the least. We did see others catching fish so I believe the bite was fairly active despite my issues with the trolling motor. One die hard skier mad a few passes in the pouring rain but went in after maybe 30 minutes. We quit at 8:45 am and that was it. 1 small trout boated then released unharmed in 2.75 hours.

I will return to give this a try again once I get my electric motor mount replaced. Over the past year or so I have searched the web for Minn Kota replacement parts but haven’t been able to find a new mount for it. I hate to think I may have to buy a new motor all together. I rated my trip a 2 but I believe the bite was better for others who were trolling slow in the right area using the right set up. BTW lots of fish on the finder. They were all in the area of 40 to 55 feet. We trolled red and or red/green wedding rings behind 000 chrome flashers, hooks tipped with white corn.

Dave, sorry to hear about your issues on the water. I was going to mention if you need a part for the Minn Kota,, if you want to PM me with the specifics,, The local Minn Kota service dude is a fellow who has a tackle shop in Shoreline. "Anglers Choice" Up near the old Ballinger Bowling alley. If you like I could go in and get you the part and mail it to you? Just let me know.

Its good you still has some action out there. You should try www.minnkotamotors.com and send them a message of what you have serial and model # and what your looking for. My motorquide mount broke and I e-mailed the company and I got the part I needed in good time. Hope that helps.

Hey Guys; Chris, That’s very kind of you to offer. I agree Scott. I did some checking after posting this report and found the part. It is the Plastic Hinge and Transom Mount Bracket, sold online by Northland Marine. Its $28 bucks. Chris, if you have the ability to check with your buddy to see if he has that part, I would be more than happy to take the drive to pick it up rather than ordering it online. I would never let you pick it up for me and mail it. That's way too much to ask for bro, but your kindness is very much appreciated. Chris, I will email you with the part number and a pic if you don't mind checking with your friend. If he has it I would be happy to make the drive. I think the Kokes are still biting at Lake Stevens, I think I was just trolling too fast thanks to my big motor which doesn't have a trolling plate on it anymore since I bent it twice. I need to get another trolling plate as well. It’s all about money.

Quad, that is truely a selfless act of kindness. Giving Dave the phone number to Anglers Choice would be help enough. You are truely a rare individual. Unless you wanted to make something off the resale, then I take it all back. Kidding, there I go again. Teasing is going to get me into trouble. You are a good guy.

Glad to hear you found your part. Quad you must me from a small town. I came from Idaho hence the ID infront of my name. I would gladly pull off the side of the road to lend you a hand if needed. I stopped pulling over to help others once a guy pulled a gun on me when I was asking if he need help to change his flat tire.

ID, as much as the many good people want to help others, based on my 22 years of police training and experience, and from hearing first hand stories from good folks like you, I would have to say that stopping to help someone these days is unfortunately taking a big risk as you found out first hand. I' can't count how many stories I have read about or seen on TV regarding the good Samaritan getting killed just trying to help someone out. It's too bad but its a direct reflection of how many worthless people there are in the world today who would just as soon stab you and take your wallet then let you help them change a tire. To me, nobody is worth that risk when I'm off duty. Amazing! Anyway, I decided to be lazy and just order the part online. It was 36.99 including shipping. So I will be good to go in a week with the new electric trolling motor mount for my Minn Kota 50 pound thrust Endura. Can’t wait to give Lake Stevens another try.
