6/7/2010 8:00:00 AMNice job on the Northern Pike Minnows. You should head to the Columbia and make some money on them! You also may want to keep in mind that killing Northern Pike Minnow in a lake like long could be detrimental to the lake. I'm not educated on long, but if they are native to the lake, they are surely a competitor for fish species, but also a major food source. Smallmouth bass love squaw fish fry. I'd speak with a Wildlife biologist before killing 50 sqaws a day in a lake like Long. Food for thought.

6/7/2010 9:43:00 AMExcellent job killing the squaws, they are about as native to the system as sharks. Especially that 4 lb breeder. They are a competition species, as in they compete with the fish people actually enjoy catching and eating, and they're notorious for eating fish eggs. Long is WAY overpopulated with them and anyone including a Ranger will tell you the only good squaw is a dead one. 50 is a drop in the bucket anyways. I've caught 25 in an hour out there if you get into a school of them. They would sweep through a bedding area like locusts and completely clean it out. In my opinion controlling the squaw is crucial to the resurgence of the largemouth out there.

6/7/2010 12:05:00 PMYea we talked to Donnie Weatherman, a Game Warden checking our licenses that day, and he told us good job, so I think we will continue to thin em out. At least I'm not a jackass and throw em on the boat launch like I saw a few times last summer.

6/7/2010 10:00:00 PMNice job man, let me know how to kill a few too and i will be out there too, i did it a few day earlyer in the year and got kicked off PUBLIC land( the water was very low and i was slaying the pike minnows but some land owner though he owned the whole lake) but i am willing to go have a few fun days of helping the largmouthbass get better and bigger, and the main resion i do kill then is because they eat a lot of the trout and landlock salmon eggs. Shoot me an e-mail and let me know you secrets on slaying the suckers and i will spend a few hrs. doind the same. Stay safe out there man.,

6/9/2010 9:06:00 PMI live on the lake and the squaw fish are my pets! leave them alone...hehehe!!! Sorry, I had to do that. I do live on the lake and what I meant to say is that the squaw fish are my pests! One of the rangers at the nine mile station has petitioned for a bounty fee on squaw fish. I hope he can make it happen!

6/12/2010 12:43:00 PMYeah BassAssassin is the other guy that I was fishing with. That pretty much sums up the technique. We were catching more by casting toward the middle rather than toward shore and any speed of retrieve worked. Hopefully this warm weather wakes up the bass. And I also mentioned to the rangers about implementing a squawfish bounty, would pay for beer and gas easily.
