Hit Hayden for the day with a friend. Launched at honeysuckle at about 6:45 in morning. Caught a few crappie and a perch. Saw some pike but could not get them to bite. Went back to dock around 10 and picked up my son to take him out for remainder of the day with us. Made it back to a bay to check on 1 of my favorite crapie hot spots and they were finally in there. Decided it was time to break out my secret technique that I go to during tough times. Ended up pulling about 15 or 20 big ones out with the largest being 1 1/2 lbs. Kept 5 to take for dinner. Ended up moving across lake to another one of my spots. Worked the bay for about 2 hours and ended up pulling 2 crappies, 15 smallmouth and 8 largemouth from this honey hole. The spawn has definately begun because on almost every largie that I caught while fighting the fish in a huge female would follow it right to the boat. All LM released. Kept a couple of the SM for table fare, but only bucks no females. All in all a fantastic day, one of my top 3 for that lake all time. Tight lines all.

Great report. I grew up over there in Pinehurst and greatly miss the chain lakes. Have you been out on the other lakes i.e. Black, Cave, etc.

Have not hit any of the chain lakes yet this year. But I know that any time that we do hit them the fishing is usually pretty good there as well.
