Fished from Eastern shoreline 1830-2000 just for some recreation catching pumpkinseeds on a tenkara rod using reverse hackle dry flies in brown and olive. A lot of aggressive pumpkinseeds with no size to 'em at all, but still a lot of fight on a 5:5 tenkara rod. Didn't see many people catching anything, but lots of weekend anglers and tons of picnic-er's, swimmers and kayakers out to enjoy the weather.

I wonder if they shouldn't just stock perch and bass to take advantage of the plethora of tiny pumpkinseeds to not only develop a nicer spiny ray fishery and add some size to the pumpkinseeds. Doesn't seem like the tiger trout in there are making a dent nor are they really gaining in size - maybe too many taken out while still small? I'd love to see those pumpkinseeds get some size to 'em and then have Fish open for ice fishing - that'd be a blast.

There are some real large Tigers in there, but I am sorry to announce that you won't catch them on a size 14 fly. The state record, caught by Evan, was caught on a plug. Evan won't tell us which one, but he did say that it and several other large tigers sure seemed to like $40 lures. One thing I am sure of is that you can't find any flies for that kind of money. LOL

Now personally I don't object to the idea of a spiny ray fishery being developed, but I assure you that the fisheries manager for the area would sooner nuke that lake and turn it into a waste dump then allow that. He already had planned on a complete kill to remove the pumkinseeds and re-stalk trout, and would have, if Evan had not caught that trout. The F&W shocked the lake and found several of the same size, and a lot of other large Tigers, but ....................

Listen, in short, if you weight 300 pounds and you want to stay that way, you would need to eat an awful lot of salad to do it. On the other hand, some large T-Bones, mashed potatoes and gravy, some large burgers, etc., and you going to gain weight. A large predator is going after the stake and potatoes, and the burgers, not the salad. Or, in other words, if you want to catch the larger Tigers in there, stop fishing small and start fishing large. Perhaps for the fly guys (am one of those some times) you might consider a double bunny on a size 1/0 3X or 4X long.
