A friend and I went fishing for kokanee at Loon lake for the first time this season. We fished from about 7:30 am to 1 pm and caught 15. We had two rods off downriggers and one leadcore line out the back and all rods caught fish. We were using a small dodger with either a spinner or fly tipped with maggots and/or corn soaked in shrimp oil and dyed pink. The kokanee this year are the largest I've ever caught at Loon lake and I've been fishing here for at least five years. We caught four to five fish that were around 15 inches and I suspect there are larger ones because we were marking large schools of fish with large arches on the sonar. The fishing should continue to be good over the next month including night fishing for kokanee and I can't wait to get after them again.

Most of the fish were caught between 20-30 feet deep in 40-50 feet of water.

How does one night fish for Kokanee? I would assume a surmersable light is used, I really have no idea! Is fishing them better at night?
