On Wed was out at the cut around Nickerson Ave and got skunked on spinners and spoons, friends using plastics. But noticed someone else caught using a green "senko" I ran out to buy one at the Big five and rigged it Texas style and weightless. 5" worm.

Granted, i've never actually used one before so i didn't know how to fish it, but eventually caught two small bass between 6-8 moving around the fremont side of the same channel. I think i was near the bottom but not really dragging it.

Just got back myself, caught 2 small Dinks on crankbait. One died cuz it hooked his eye, sorry lil buddy. Senkos work great too, thanks.

Senkos are easy to use, just cast out and let it fall to the bottom. The wiggle from the fall is what gives it's action.

Is the canal fairly deep? Big boats pass through there. I would think a weightless senko would be hard to fish deep. Is the rip rap along the edge that gradually falls away into deep water where the fishing is focused?. I have got to try this.

I "heard" it's around 30' deep but not sure. I usually throw a split shot weight on the nose, not sure if that's good or bad but seems to work. I saw some pretty big splashes out in the middle, does anyone know if the salmon come through here or other kind of fish in there?

Yes, the salmon def. come through there. That is why they have the portal at the locks for the salmon to get in and out of the salt. But look at your regs. There is no fishing from any floating device West of the Fremont bridge. And I don't even have to look... but I would bet my life that there is no salmon fishing allowed even from shore through that whole area. When they are coming through, they will nearly jump in your boat while waiting to go through the locks. No chance that would ever be open. But always look in the regs.
