thats funny it was ont q6 tonight and fish and game is going to be out asking that you pick up but no law saying you cant leave them acording to q-6s law search . but they do ask you pick up the ones you kill wich cant blame them

The first time I went carp shooting at Newman Lake, I had been told that leaving them in the water would let them sink and they would become food for catfish and not be an issue. After shooting and leaving about 20 carp in a cople of hours, we changed our minds. At first they seemed to sink but after a short while we could see a trail of dead fish floating on top. We scooped them up and disposed of them. Man, dragging a stringer of over 20 carp around can get heavy. We decided to start taking a garbage can in the boat with us. It didn't take up too much room and made for an easy way to dispose of the newly made "Good Carp" I agree with the Thumb. Shoot them suckers, then shoot some more (carp not suckers, that was a figure of speech). Happy fishing, and Happy Carp Shooting.

didn't see the show, but it was my neighbors. my contact with law enforcement on the water the other night( where i moved the carp to) was that the carp could not be returned to the water. they said to get boat numbers and call it in. I'm no lawyer either, though page 20 of the regs say you can't intentionally waste fish or shellfish.

This a case of no matter what we do, we cannot win. We are told by the F&W biologist that putting fish guts, etc., back into the water is a good thing. In fact, I know of one small West Side city that cleaned up salmon carcass years ago and was fined for not leaving the natural die offs in the ecosystem for nutrients. On the flip side of this it the fact that floating carp stink bad. I believe that if you gut your carp that the open body cavity will allow the fish to sink and not float up as they "age". I often carry a machete with me and hack them in half. Many will disagree, but I dare anyone to find one of my split dead carp floating (sorry, have not shot any carp in Long Lake, or anywhere this year - better bring my bow along next time -- HEHE). The garbage can idea is a pretty good one, but what do you do with them when you are done? Are you the guys that put them in the public dumpsters where they are even worse - the smell of rotting and overheating fish is just so pleasant, especially with 10 or 20 of them in one spot. My garden can only hold so many carp, and I'll bet that most don't have gardens to place them, so then what are you doing with them? What about Northern Pike Minnows that we catch? Are you killing them and letting them float. If the cops give you a ticket, I suspect that you have a pretty good chance of beating the thing in court. On the other hand, if you just let them float and stink you probably deserve a ticket. As for getting boat numbers and calling it in, what stops Joe "that is my dock" Citizen from taking any boat number and using that as the excuse. Again, easy to beat in court and of little value for solving our problem. Thumb, other then making threats, or warnings if you WANT to call it that, what do you propose? Perhaps because you are on site you can test various methods of disposal. As for the law enforcement, I suspect that this is a case of the left hand and the right hand not being in agreement with each other. Again, I see that if the "hood" is fed up, as I suppose they have a right to be, then this will get ugly. I'd rather see you propose a good solution rather then puffing up your chest and ............................. Enough said.
