The weather was too nice to pass up. Fished Beaver from 6a-9a this morning. Very calm and peaceful. Couple of guys fishing from the park, but no other boats on the water the whole time. Had not pre-rigged my poles, so spent some time sitting in the middle of the lake tying gear on. When I looked up from my knot, a passle of mallards had come up looking for a handout. Had a home-made topwater lure I wanted to try, so alternated between that and my trusty 5' Senko wacky rigged. Fished both in and along the lillypads and by docks. Only got two hits between 6 and 8:20. Both on the Senko and neither one hooked. At one point I heard footsteps on a dock, so looked up expecting to see a person, but there were two deer standing out at the end of the dock looking at me. Don't see that everyday. After a bit they moved on to the next dock and stood out there for a time. Saw they were eating the flowers in the owner's planters. Smart deer. Figured today was a bust fishingwise, but still had a half hour to go, so moved to the other side of the lake and after a couple of casts with the Senko, decided to try something different. I had a pole rigged with a perch colored glass shadrap that I'd never even had a hit on, so tossed it out half-heartedly. Second cast and bam! Nice sized dink. took a pic and threw the shadrap again. Wham.....a LMB the size of my hand. That guy had some cajones and fought well for such a little dude. That ended up being it for the morning. Got a couple more hits on the shadrap, but couldn't hook up and ran out of time, so to work I went. Fishing was slow, but what an interesting morning and couldn't have asked for better weather!
