Arrived on my first ever visit, to a windy, overcast Lake Cassidy at 1430 on Saturday. Launched and switched back and forth between a trolled split tail rapalla and tried jigging with a plastic maggot for about 2 hours in the lily pads. No joy.
Switched to a Brown and Orange Big Craw rattle bait with no weight and kept the J7 Split Tail Perch Pattern rapalla on 4' leader with a 2" slinky; on the second pole. With in 10 minutes, I landed a 17", 2# Rainbow (pic) and about 2 seconds after I landed it; I tagged a 14" Rainbow (estimating) which did not make it into the boat as it hit against the gunnel and came off, as I was swinging it into the boat. Two beautiful fish. By now the sun was out and the lake was calm and the temps in the high 70's. Beat the water to a froth for the next 21/2 hours with no more action-at all.
Based on my Humminbird 120 fish finder, most were either hanging about a foot off the bottom in the shallows or at the 15' level in 25' water at the middle of the lake. I was using a MinKota 40# thrust motor set at 3 (of 5) when I got the hits. Both trout were about 7' deep in 15' water and never showed on my monitor.
Had a blast and look forward to doing it again soon!
