What a day!
I'm new to the area and have heard there are some good bass lakes on the island, and boy is there. i'm originally from texas and have bass fished all my life. fish lake campbell on saturday and caught some really good bass. one being 9 pounds! i'm astonish on how many people do not fish for bass around here. there are so many good fisheries lake campbell being one. all day i was rippin lips on 2 plus pounders! great bass lake! lookin to take on lake whatcom next! but, pretty sure i'll catch the state record out of campbell soon. jigs and texas rigged lizards have got it done in pumpkin. I'll keep writing reports every week on lakes surrounding whidbey island. Deer lake is hitting good right now too!

Great job! I never fish that lake, but it does look like a nice bass lake. Where did you catch most of you fish?

Nice fish. The smaller one looks like a Smallmouth - is it? Campbell has a long standing reputation of having big bass that are hard to catch in all that salad, especially with a jig.
Apparently either you hit a hot day or you've got the touch. I'll assume the second & like Whatcomfinest ask for you divulge any tips on location & technique. Some part of that lake seem to have a foot of mulch on the bottom. I'm guessing you fished the jigs around the island.

That littlest one is a spotted bass. Really hard fighters and very abundant in the lake. you can tell there spots by the patch of teeth on there tongue and the broken lateral line on there sides. Have yet to catch a smallie out of lake campbell. There are big bass all over that lake, you just have to find em in deeper water. To get away from the moss on the bottom, if you have a good graph, cruise the lake and look for drop-offs and humps and vertical jig those holes. Also you can fish the eastern end of the lake where there is little to no moss. I when out yesterday and incorporated some things i used fishing tournaments in central, northern california throwing 6-8 in casatic trout swim baits, hooked one probably close to 9 lbs. if not better. also, on the northern end of the island there is a rock face that drops off quick. try drop shotting 4 inch watermelon red fleck finesse worms, or throw a carolina rig lizard. also on the humps on the west in of the lake try throwing a rapala or raddle-trap in silver or sexy shad over the humps. These are good summer tactics for this lake i believe.

Spotted bass??? Are you sure? I have never seen a report of them being present in lakes in NW WA!

Thanks for the tips. I am still a beginner when it comes to electronics -spent most of my life fishing from shore or a canoe.

most deffinatley a spot! spotted bass are cold water fish and thrive in these lakes. alot of people mistake them for a small mouth bass because they do have a smaller mouth for there body size, but never the less a smallmouth bass is brown and tiger striped. lots of em' in campbell! going this afternoon then tomarrow gonna takle deer lake.

I have tried campbell a few times when I lived on Island with no luck lots of moss and slim in the lack. Nice fish and heard there were big one's and heard around the island in the middle is a good place to try. I gave up on lack due to lack of motor on my row boat.

i do pretty good on deer lake. it's had alot of pressure this year, but there are some monster bass in there and i think ass it gets colder the pressure will calm down and the lip rippin will be very good. fish campbell last weekend and tore em' up on a buzzbait! right! kinda strange hu? but it happened. i'm gonna hit campbell again this weekend....might slide over to samish for some fall smallies!
