Sorry for the late report, no internet acces for a week. My first time catching Kokanee, fished from the rubber raft with my new wife on our honeymoon at Mt. Rainier. Appartently, Morton is the closest place to buy electronics to Ashford, where we spent our honeymoon in a wonderful cabin, if you go to the mountain, I'd reccomend it Altimeter Cabin. But we needed a card reader and Riffe lake is the only thing in Morton.
We took out the Seahawk 400 inflatable and paddled around. The wind died down after a while And we wandered towards the dam from the county park boat launch. I was fishing at 15 to 25 pulls with an ounce of weight, pulling a home made rig with three brass hildebrant spinners and a yellow orange South Bend spoon, tipped with worms or corn. We boated 3 fish, 10" 12" and 18", al very good fighters, lots of jumping. We wou.d have caught more, but we left after a couple hours of fishing. The wife named the fish Mrs. Kanoakee and Mr. Genuine Dinnerondagrill, for the first two, since they were obviously from the same school (back to back hookups) and the second was Mr. Coke Goesgoodwiddashrimp and unfortunatly Mrs. Kanoke Goesgoodwiddashrimp was not interested in coming aboard and self released. Several other unnamed fish self released before we were able to become friendly enough to name them.
There were some very rude jet skiers that did not care whose fish they scared or whose boat the tipped over that got yelled at by me. Seriously, they were really rude. My boat wasn't going to tip or sink, but you don't blast by me at 45 mph when I've got fishing pole out. There was 30 miles of lake and you don't have to be any where near me.
Otherwise, great day of fishing. Out of the five or so boats I talked to, we were the only ones with fish, so it may have been my unconventional rig. I did see a guy with a 20+ incher, what I would have called a Salmon, less of a Kokanee, as we were launching the boat, but my 18" was a perfect fight on 4 pound test. We grilled them up at the cabin that night and they were amazing table fare.
