I was staying in Chelan overnight & thought I would give it a try knowing that SMB are present. About 8:15 PM I parked in the ferry parking lot, snapped on a 3/8th oz green Gitzit, & casually flipped it out toward the docked ferry that was being cleaned for the the run next morning. About 10 cranks of the reel & bam, had my 1st fish, caught 3 more in 6 casts. After that I had a hit on about every 3rd cast and for the next half hour caught about a dozen smallies on each side of the ferry dock. They were smallish with 3-4 being 1-2 lbs & the rest less than 6-10". None the less I was amazed at how many fish I caught next to the ferry in 3-8 feet of water over what was basically a sand flat.

I moved north a bit to a rockier section of shore & fished next to a falling down dock & the rocks & only got 1 strike. I don't know if it was the location of the bite just stopped, but it was getting dark so I hung 'er up for the night.

Either way I got the impression that the smallmouth are thriving on the south end of this lake. I would like to learn more about fishing smallies in Lake Chelan.
Was this a fluke or is the SMB fishing consistently this productive here?
What are the best times of the year to fish here? What are some productive areas that can be fished from shore or a small boat? Thanks.
