After my last trip to Fish lake had to replace my transom as my boat was made in 1956 and had a bad case of rot. Spent a few days getting things up to snuf and thought I would check things out with a quick trip to one of our local lakes for a bit of RB fun. Got on the lake at 7Am when the State Park opens and fog was so thick that was hard to see the front of the boat. No hits for the next few hours and no action on the fish finder. Just as the sky cleared around 11Am the first fish was on and made it into the boat and was let go to grow a bit more. I had a few other bits and one keeper in the next 45 min. Then got a nice hit and a nice run with a few jumps to show me who was boss. She turned out to be a nice 15" RB. Next fish took the hook line and sinker and ended having to join the 2 others in the boat. After a few hours of no hits lots of tackle changes ( A few types of flat fish, Tripple teasers, Mepps, A few roster Tails ands even a fly or two) ended up back to the wedding ring in blue and red with a added glow in the dark set of beads I put on to give that extra punch and made the last turn to head for home and half way through the turn my line went slack and I looked back and watched as my line and 18' of very pissed off Fish started dancing 100 feet behind my boat. I had to take it slow as I was using 2 Lb test and she was taking line and turning every few min. She went around the boat 2 times before giving up. She gave a great fight and I was happy to get her in the boat only to find the hook off when I put the net at my feet. I guess it pays to do everything buy the book. No slack, light drag and let the fish do what it wants and not force the issue she will come to you sooner or later. For a slow start not a bad ending. Still lots of ski boats to deal with so keep this in mind if you go. You will rock and roll and maybe it's worth it??
