So I talked my buddy Kevin into joining me to give Baker lake a shot. He's been telling me for years that sockeye won't bite anything and the only way to get them is by flossing.. okay snagging them, I have seen the baker sockeye bite and hoped he would get to see for himself. We launched at Shannon creek campground at 5:30 am, and man what a sunrise too bad I forgot my camera. We fished down lake from Noisey Creek with the downriggers , 00 dodgers and it was a small pink hoochie that brought in our only fish. At 7 am Kevin's fishing rod started dancing and he was all over it, he horsed it in to the net in less than 30 seconds I think, awesome. Nice fish around 5-6 pounds and still bright, at 46 feet on the downrigger and a picture perfect upper lip hookset that left no doubt about whether these sockeye will attack. About a half hour later with my downrigger at 46 feet I saw my rod dip down and got bit of a thrill for 2 seconds then reeled in a 7 foot tree branch , oh well wasn't my day , that was the only time my line released itself from the downrigger all day. We called it a day at around noon. I was surprised that my fish finder was saying that the water was 68 degrees I expected it to be colder not from experience but because of the mountainous location. Good times!
