Hit Silver this AM from 0700-1045 for some bluegill after receiving a tip from a local re: where they might be residing this time of year. Bluegill were deep and not interested in surface flies, so I'm glad I brought along a Thill bobber and perch jig setup. Caught some bluegill and one dink perch suspended in 3-6ft over 10ft of water. Only brought out one shrimp which I cut into pieces, and the bluegill loved that - lost a lot to bait stealers though. Went to Power Bait maggots after the shrimp quickly ran out. Caught a few on them. Bite died down as the sun got high and bright in the sky.

Went to WinCo and picked up a pound of frozen U71-90 shrimp for $3.28 which will go a long way (cheaper than "actual" bait ie: worms, maggots, etc). The colors on the fish really fade fast when you don't ice 'em early and keep 'em cold. The two fish to the right-hand corner I'd caught a day before and placed into the fridge for clearning today - they kept their color a lot better. People are also right that the fish begin to break down fast if not killed immediately, gutted and iced. There've been opinions that letting the fish thrash around in a bucket also isn't good for the meat. I'm debating on the best way to dispatch the bluegill I catch, and bonking 'em on the head doesn't seem to work that well (it's tricky).

Well, hope they're hanging around tomorrow, cause I've got a pound of shrimp to throw at 'em.
