Today was windy and overcast so thought i would try a lake that has wind cover and that i have not fished in a while which the selection turned out to be Stump in Mason co. I was pleasently surprised at the new wilderness launch (large crushed rock) at this lake. Okay for carry ins and smaller 4 wheel drive pulled boats. Water temp at launch at about noon was 65 degrees and stayed that way all around the lake for the whole day. First fish was caught by flippin a black plastic craw along the drop edge. Only 1 fish caught on craw so decided to switch to a faster search lure which was a Crank bait. Saw a few follow ups but no takes on first color selection so switched to a plug that i found while fishing Silver Lake this year I thought would be good for the color of the water ,slightly stained but good 5 to 6 ft.visibility depth,Found fish in about 5 to 7 foot of water next to some type of wood be it limbs or logs. fish wanted the lure to come by Structure and pause for a couple of seconds and then do an eratic retreive with jerky motions of the reel handle only to impart the action to the lure. Biggest fish for the day was 3lbs 9ozs. Sorry no pictures taken. I'm going to try a new picture uploading with the lure used with my reports. Did meet Ted on the water and took this shot of his trout. Caught 11 bass today mostly on crank bait. Trout anglers note the color of lure had really large trout (MORE THAN ONE) today hitting at plug but threw plug because of weight. Always enjoyed this lake for its scenery and quiet out of the way place. Dave Newby

Nice report Dave! I fished stump lake several times during the early 1990s and caught several nice largemouth. Best fish was 3-3 and white spinnerbaits were effective lures.
