Hit American on Satuday after the moring rain let up. Got on the water around 10:30am and began trolling from the launch toward the VA. 15min into the morning, I landed a nice 12" Kokanee-good start. Kept fishing around the island and the VA with good success. I caught my limit by 12:30pm but was letting them all go in the hopes of a big one. About 2pm, I decided it was time to call it and turned the boat for the launch. Checked the gear one last time for the troll back and started putting stuff away. Fishing SW from Silcox Island, at 28' in 65' of water doing 1.7mph, my rod started bouncing. I set the hook and the fight was on. The fish took two good runs and jumped twice before I got him in the net. A fat 17" Kokanee for the BBQ. Beautiful fish with all the appearance and attitude of his saltwater cousins. Would of taken pictures but I was fishing solo, to bad. 90% of the takes came on a Sling Blade Dodger in green with a green/UV mini Hootchie about 24" behind that tipped with corn. Day totals: 4hours of fishing, 14 takes on the downriggers, 10 fish landed with all being released but the 17" guy. Good day and pretty much had the lake to myself. Not very many people out, mostly fisherman.

If you are using corn 90 % of the time you are using bait and it's against the regs. to catch and release past 5 fish. I've tipped my wedding rings with bait at that lake and a LOT of the kokanee were hooked too badly to have survived if released. Catching and releasing Kokanee is an iffy practice when using bait if releasing just to catch bigger fish. Bob R.
