I fished stevens for the first time. I went to one of the 2 public docks that they have. Because I have not fished there I was not sure what the best bait was or what most people have been catching. I asked the 3-4 people that were there fishing what they were catching and they were getting perch and sunfish. They were using worms and injecting them to make it float a bit. When I saw the size of the fish they were geting -6 inch- I was not sure how much success I was going to have because I just had powerbait and lures for trout and bass. When I asked them about powerbait they said that nothing in this area bit powerbait, "I have fished here for 20 years and no one has ever caught anything with powerbait". I worked an area with various lures with no luck. When most everyone left I decided it was time to try the powerbait. It could not get any worse. I had to reposition my line a few times then bang! My pole bent hard and the handle was lifting off the dock heading out to the water! I caught my pole, went to set the hook to see the fish was breaking the water already. It took a little playing to get him in but it was a nice 18 inch rainbow. I did not weigh her but she was pretty beefy.
I fished for another half hour with no luck. It was either bad information or I was really lucky to get that one lost trout that was lost on the other side town!
