With it being such a beautiful day, wife and I decided to run up to Manson and put the boat in Roses Lake. Launched around 11-11:30 and took out around 4:30. Calm to light breeze, upper 60s to mid 70s air temp with light scattered clouds , and the water temp was 68*. Fished jigs in the 1/16 oz size tipped with a Plastic minnow immitation or a berkley nymph most of the time out. Then we would add a crappie nibble (cindy) or a Berkley black leech (me). We were getting loads of hits, but just a few hook-ups, so we downsized to a 1/80 oz crappie jig (greyish color with red flakes). We then caught scads of crappie and bluegill from 4-7 inches with only one crappie in the 11 inch range. Cindy caught it and since the catch had been running so small, She C&Rd it. I caught several bass from 3 or so inches up to 1 1/2 pounds. The suprise fish for the day came as I was dibblin the 1/80th oz jig around the edge of the toulees, when all of a sudden the rod tip went to the water. As I was using 4 pound line, I was concerned it would go into the toulees as most of the bass did, but this guy headed out into the lake. After rooting around in the weeds and moss for a while, a channel cat finally gave up the fight and came to the boat. I estimated it at around 3 pounds or so. It measured out at 22 inches. Put up a nice battle on the light gear. I have been going to smoke one of them bad boys if I can get one big enough to make a smokin, but this one will go to a friend who is fish deprived. We caught crappie, bluegill, yellow perch, bass, and a catfish on this trip. Even though the fish were on the small side, it was a great day of catching. There were a couple of bass fishermen on the water, and they said the day was slow for them, but they were picking up a few. A couple of other boats out, but a quite day on the water.

Great report as usual - that's a very nice looking channel cat. Too bad you didn't get anything for a fish fry - bluegill at 7" might be OK if you don't mind filleting. Thanks again for the nice read.

Great report Lewis and glad to see you getting back out there and having some fun. Carrie and I hit the Methow today to try steelhead. She got a hit and then lost one in the 6-7 pound range. We had fun but wish she could of fought the fish longer.

Howdy Jay K, Thanks for the comments. If we could have caught more of the 7 inchers, the fillet knife would have been flashing. LOL. It was a day of dinks, but it got the mind off the day to day issues. Take care and catch some fish.
