Headed over to Potholes Resevoir to the 7th annual Mardon Dock Tourney. The tourney starts friday at 6pm to 11am sunday morning with a big pie social and feast to end with. This derby runs 24 hr a day. You fish for 10 species walleye, L & S mouth bass, perch, crappie, bluegill, catfish, bullhead, carp, and trout. Me and a buddy got there on thur and checked it out caught a bunch of crappie and perch. There ended up being some 250 people for this derby good turn out. Come derby time 5min in this kid with a mini crappie jig lands a 7.22 LMB ya he took 1st for that one. Caught tons of fish all friday night on into saturday nothing able to get me on the board. Sat night I started using an 1/8 ounce jig with a junebug/chartruese curly tail, I jigged that thing all over the place then a fishing buddy that was also participating in the derby told me to tweak my retrieve of my jig just a tad so I said what the heck and moved down a ways and took a cast. On my second cast i landed a little smb that was .10 short of the board so I walked back over and casted out again and this time aI got a nice hit. Got that ugly thing up on the dock it was a bullhead so I took it over to the weigh station "BAM" 1.88 LBS good enough to move into 1st place place by less than a half pound. Then the rain came it poured on us the next morning the wind picked up that really put a damper on things but I ended up taking first place got a little trophy and a check for 317.25 dollars. (paid for the weekend) I would recommend this derby to anyone that likes bank and dock fishing, great for kids. Great weekend sorry no pics maybe I will just take one of the trophy.
