"Drift fishing for perch!" LOL I spent a few minutes trying for the coho and my heart just wasn't in it. The last few trips have come up snake eyes so I thought I'd just have some fun today. I didn't have my tackle box with me so I slapped on a weight that was handy, a 3" pencil lead that I had pretied a dropper line on for drift fishing the rivers for salmon. That's right, I drift fished Lake WA for perch! I used about a six ft leader with 3 little hooks tied on just about any ole place. No jigs or plastic doo hickies just good old fashioned hooks and dug out of the back yard brown looking worms. The wind, at whatever speed she was a blowing, provided the propulsion for the drift. Turned the outdrive just so to turn the boat sideways for the entire drifts, hard to port or starboard, I can't recall. Each drift was about a half mile or so, starting at 50 or 60 feet ending at about 15'. North end of the lake, Kenmore. The method made a lot of sense after pondering, lots of fish are caught this way, walleye is the first one that comes to mind for lakes and slow moving rivers. I maintained contact with the bottom most of the time. This provided phenominal results today. Only one was about 12 inches, a monster perch for these waters. If one species isn't biting, go after one that is! LMAO Had a great day, now it's perch cleaning time!
